Tooth & Dental CrownsWhen a tooth becomes cracked, damaged or decayed, a crown may be needed. A crown acts as a cap, which is a permanent covering that is placed over the original tooth. The function of a crown is to protect and strengthen the tooth while restoring it to its original shape, size and aesthetics. Our crowns are made of porcelain fused to metal, zirconium, all ceramic or gold. Bridgework is a series of connected crowns, replacing missing teeth by bridging the gap and using the surrounding teeth as abutments. Crown and bridge work is completed in two visits. During your first visit, the tooth is prepared for the permanent crown or bridge. Impressions of your teeth are taken, which are sent to our technicians to create a crown or bridge. During this period a temporary crown or bridge made out of acrylic resin is fitted onto the tooth. On your second visit the temporary crown is removed and the new crown or bridge is cemented into place.
